Ensuring Ethics in Your Testing

SYNOPSIS

Summary:
The objective of this training is to demonstrate to sampling and laboratory personnel that using sound judgement ensures the information will withstand scrutiny from regulators and others.

Personnel doing sampling and testing must use proper judgment and understand that data are not always perfect. Applying ethics to the data generation ensures the measurements are appropriate. Personnel working in any sampling/testing activity must ensure they do no create data that are acceptable when the data are not acceptable. This training helps personnel know what is the proper way to handle measurements when equipment is not working properly, or training is lacking or other circumstances where the quality control data are not acceptable.

This training is for laboratories doing testing and sampling, such as Solids, Bacteria, BOD, pH, temperature chlorine residual, dissolved oxygen and collecting samples. The training does not cover ethics as applied to sophisticated equipment such as chromatography, spectrophotometry, etc.

This training is for operations and compliance inspection staff should for DW and WW municipalities, small labs doing sampling and testing.

Learning Objectives
Personnel working in the laboratory will learn how to make proper judgement when performing measurements.
