Modified Voting Draft Standard for the National Environmental Field Activities Program (NEFAP)

Date Posted: 6-5-2013

TNI is pleased to announce the publication of the modified Voting Draft Standard (VDS), below, for the National Environmental Field Activities Program (NEFAP):

Field Sampling and Measurement Organization Sector - General Requirements for Field Sampling and Measurement Organizations – Volume 1 (PDF, 73KB)

Field Sampling and Measurement Organization Sector - General Requirements for Accreditation Bodies Accrediting Field Sampling and Measurement Organizations – Volume 2 (PDF, 398KB)

On 11-29-12, TNI posted the VDS for public vote and comment, followed by discussion at an open meeting of the Field Activities Expert Committee (FAC) at the TNI Forum in Denver, CO on 1-15-13. Subsequently, the Committee reviewed all comments received and, where deemed persuasive, made modifications to the VDS. A summary of the comments received and the Committee's responses is available in the following documents: FAC-VDS-Response and Comments Vol 1 and FAC-VDS-Response to Comments VII. In accordance with TNI’s Procedures Governing Standards Development, the modified VDS is now being posted for a 15-day period, ending at 12:00am EDT on 6-21-2013, during which any Committee member may change his or her vote, providing written electronic notice to the Committee Chair. The vote will then be re-tallied and, in order to pass, requires an affirmative vote of at least two-thirds of the combined affirmative and negative votes cast by Committee Members. The results of the vote on the modified VDS will then be published.

If the modified VDS passes, it becomes the Interim Standard (IS). The IS will then be presented to the NEFAP Executive Committee and this committee will have 30 days to discuss the IS with the FAC and to submit any further comments. As a result of this input, the FAC may further modify the standard.

The IS shall then be submitted to the Standard Review Council to insure consistency in format with Guidelines for Standards Development, editorial and/or grammatical corrections, clarity of content and overall consistency with other modules of the Standard.

After these two reviews, if the IS has been modified, the FAC members will vote to accept the modifications and then finalize the standard.
