ABSTRACT

This presentation provides elements needed to obtain reliable data for making any environmental decision. The data collecting starts with planning of the project, followed by implementation of the plan. The implementation steps include: collecting samples, testing the samples and then evaluating the information obtained to make the decision. The sample collection organization is the first implementation step for ensuring reliable data. In order to ensure the data is reliable, the data user selects an organization to perform this first step. That organization must be competent as a Field Sampling and Measurement Organization (FSMO). The elements of the TNI FSMO standard define the requirements for a competent FSMO. The materials present how accreditation to the TNI FSMO standard provides the elements for operating a competent FSMO organization. The planning of the sample collection activity and the management of this activity is the key to success for any project. The TNI FSMO standard provides the FSMO with the elements to plan for and have in place a system for operating any sample collection and testing activity.
