About the Presenter:

Beth Thompson

Beth is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. She has performed toxicity testing and toxicity identification evaluations for 22 years and has authored dozens of technical reports. She has assisted over fifty facilities in South Carolina and Virginia with site-specific metal limit development. She has given technical presentations at meetings in South Carolina and across the U.S. on toxicity testing issues. Beth is the Technical Director of Shealy Consulting, LLC, and is a member of the WEASC Laboratory Committee. In 2013, Beth received the WEASC Analyst of the year award and in 2016 she won the Water Environment Federation Laboratory Analyst Excellence Award. Beth is currently the secretary of the WEASC Executive Committee. She lives in Lexington with her husband and is the proud mother of a Carolina Gamecock and a Clemson Tiger.

Ginger Briggs

Ginger is the President of Bio-Analytical Laboratories Incorporated of Doyline, Louisiana, which she helped to establish in 1993 and is now the sole owner. She received a Bachelor’s of Life Sciences degree in Microbiology from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana in 1988, as well as continuing education training in Whole Effluent Toxicity Testing and Toxicity Reduction Evaluations from the University of Texas at Austin and the United States Environmental Protection Agency. She has 28 years of experience conducting whole effluent toxicity (WET) tests and Toxicity Reduction Evaluations.

Ginger has been involved TNI for several years. She is a member of TNI’s Small Laboratory Advocacy Group (SLAG), has served on the TNI WETT PT Standards Subcommittee and is full voting member of the TNI WETT Expert Committee. Recently, she was the lead presenter of TNI’s WETT Assessor’s Forum at the 2016 Forum on Environmental Accreditation/Environmental Measurement Symposium in Orange County, California.

Katie Payne

Katie is an environmental scientist who has a passion for applying toxicology, biology, and ecology to understand, navigate, and solve complex environmental issues. Katie is the Quality Assurance and Compliance Manager for Nautilus Environmental, an accredited laboratory that specializes in a full range of toxicity testing located in San Diego, CA. With over 10 years of experience in aquatic toxicity, Katie is well versed in conducting routine and specialized freshwater, marine, and sediment toxicity tests utilizing a variety of organisms. In her current role, her focus is production of the highest quality toxicity data through development and implementation of the laboratory QA plan and standard operating procedures. Katie attended the University of San Diego and received a B.A. with dual majors in biology and economics.
